*Open Source & Creative Commons

Open design is based on collaborative initiatives, spread and connected via the internet. It is using the opportunities given by open source and channelling them into a collaborative process which develops goods and systems by applying the publicly shared knowledge.(Open Design Now, 2012) Usually no monetary value will be involved. The results of the collaborative design process, can be shared, used and learned from, generally copyright protected through e.g. creative commons licenses. Those licenses offer the creators freedom in open- and closeness of the content, but still providing public availability. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/
